All experience levels welcome

In this intensive ceramics class students (in pairs) will be guided by New York based artist, Anahit Pogosian, in creating a full chess set and board through the process of handbuilding with minimal tools.

Working with two colors of stoneware clay and underglaze, students will collaborate with their chosen partners in bringing to life a unique chess set that embodies and tells the story of your love for each other. Capturing memories of how you’ve met and celebrating the journey of the path you’ve lived, the hardships you’ve overcome together and what you’re looking forward to next year. This chess set will become a family heirloom and function as a sculptural album to be played with and treasured for many generations to come.

This work will serve us as a tender reminder that in this timeless mind bending game of life, it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about choosing love with every move we make.

Students have the option of designing one set with a 12”x12” board or two miniature travel size sets at 6”x6” each. No partner, no problem. Single individuals are welcome to join and create a set that embodies the loving relationship they honor in themselves or a loved one that was lost. This intention of this class is to connect deeper with ourselves through the process of creation and celebrate love, in all its infinite forms.

All students work will be fired to cone 5 and will be ready for pick up within 3 weeks of the commencement of the workshop.

Instructor

Anahit Pogosian. Russian born, Armenian American interdisciplinary artist working between film, graphics and sculpture. Unbound by material or tradition, they create a motley collection of works that celebrate life.

Anahit began working with clay in 2015 and has since expanded into other materials — glass, 3D printed PLA, wood, aluminum and bronze. Adapting to the post pandemic world in NYC, they’ve begun to incorporate performance and writing into their practice. When not engaged in pushing boundaries with materials, they can be found listening to the birds, swimming and picking flowers outside with their son and nieces.

Sliding Scale Pricing

Sliding scale pricing is a tool for social equity. We use sliding scale pricing to make ceramics education accessible and affordable.

There are three tiers for pricing, when signing up for a workshop, please pay on the scale what feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible.

The high end of the scale is the true cost. If you are someone who can afford to pay this, please do, as this offsets the price for others, allowing us to create more affordable offerings.

There are a set amount of spaces available per tier to ensure that the scale is balanced and workshop costs are covered. If a tier is sold out it means that all those spots have been spoken for. An interest free payment plan is available for all workshops, breaking the workshop cost down to smaller payments over a longer period of time.

We do our best to ensure workshops are accessible and affordable. We are continuously improving our pricing system, please reach out if you have any questions or ideas you'd like to share.

Cancellation Policy

Workshops are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the workshop you may transfer your spot to another person, please confirm with the studio when doing so.

Accessibility

The workshop space is ADA accessible. A bathroom is available for workshop participants that has a set of 3 stairs leading to it that is not currently ADA accessible. For any specific needs or additional questions on accessibility, please reach out

COVID Protocol

Participants are encouraged to take at home Covid tests prior to the workshop to ensure collective safety. As we're working in a very well ventilated environment, masks are optional. If you are experiencing any Covid like symptoms or have been exposed to someone with Covid, please stay home and get in touch.
