Description

Taught by Natalia Ira Sookias

4-weeks, every other Wednesday from 6:30pm - 9:30pm

Dates: September 13, 27 + October 11 + 25

All levels welcomed, in this workshop we will explore the endless possibilities of large scale forms. Participants will learn hand building techniques including large scale coil building and slab construction with terracotta clay. Each week additional techniques will be covered based on participants interests and experience. We'll cover lots of tips and tricks to strengthen pieces and push the possibilities of clay. This class is limited to 12 students so that there is ample time for individual attention.

Weeks 1-3 will be dedicated to making pieces, week 4 will focus on trimming, carving and decoration with oxides. Throughout the duration of the course, participants will be given clay to work with at home in order to practice, develop ideas and technique outside of class time. Participants are welcome to make as many pieces as they'd like throughout the duration of the workshop.

Tools and clay will be provided. All work will be low fired to cone 06. The terracotta will not be glazed in class and therefore porous. Students have the option to glaze their pieces outside of class. This workshop will take place at Sooki Studio located in East Los Angeles, 15 minutes east of Downtown. The studio address will be sent out to registered participants.

Sliding Scale Pricing

Sliding scale pricing is a tool for social equity. We use sliding scale pricing to make ceramics education accessible and affordable to all.

There are three tiers for pricing, when signing up for a workshop, please pay on the scale what feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible.

The high end of the scale is the true cost. If you are someone who can afford to pay this, please do, as this offsets the price for others, allowing us to create more affordable offerings.

There are a set amount of spaces available per tier to ensure that the scale is balanced and workshop costs are covered. If a tier is sold out it means that all those spots have been spoken for. An interest free payment plan is available for all workshops, breaking the workshop cost down to smaller payments over a longer period of time.

We do our best to ensure workshops are accessible and affordable. We are continuously improving our pricing system, please reach out if you have any questions or ideas you'd like to share.
