Saturday, January 28th, 11am - 1pm
This handbuilding ceramics workshop will be a playful low stakes learning environment grounded in exploration and letting go of expectations. Participants will work with terracotta clay and are welcome to make anything they'd like such as sculptural, abstract and functional forms.
No experience is necessary, this workshop will be suited to those who are curious in working with clay for the first time and those with various levels of experience who would like to create in a communal space.
All materials are included and participants can build as many pieces as they'd like within the 2-hour period. A suggested list of everyday items that can be used as tools will be sent to registered participants prior to the workshop. We will be working with unglazed terracotta clay that can be used for anything except eating or drinking.
This workshop will take place at Sooki Studio located in Los Angeles, 15 minutes east of Downtown. All pieces will be fired and ready for pick up within 3-weeks of the workshop.
Sliding Scale Pricing
Sliding scale pricing is a tool for social equity. I use sliding scale pricing to make ceramics education accessible and affordable to all.
There are three tiers for pricing, when signing up for a workshop, please pay on the scale which feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible.
The high end of the scale is the true cost. If you are someone who can afford to pay this, please do, as this offsets the price for others, allowing me to create more affordable offerings.
No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. If you are unable to afford a workshop at this time and feel you need clay in your life, please get in touch and we will find an arrangement so that you can participate at a further reduced cost or at no cost.
This workshop is taught by Sooki Studio founder, Natalia Sookias. Natalia has been teaching over the last decade from the kindergarten level ranging to university graduate students in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Currently, she teaches at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts. She studied at CalArts, Central St. Martin's and the Prince's School for Traditional Arts in London. Click here to learn more about her educational offerings or get in touch with any questions.
Workshops are non-refundable, if you do need to cancel I will try my best to fill the spot, in which case I can offer a refund, however this is not guaranteed. If you are unable to attend the workshop you may transfer your spot to another person.
Participants are encouraged to take at home Covid tests prior to the workshop to ensure collective safety. As we're working in a very well ventilated environment, masks are optional. If you are experiencing any Covid like symptoms or have been exposed to someone with Covid, please stay home and get in touch so that we can schedule a make-up session.
