Led by Rob Sato

April 6, 20 + May 4

3 sessions meeting every other Saturday from 11am - 2pm

In this workshop, participants will work with artist and educator, Rob Sato, to explore painting with watercolors.

Watercolor makes tangible and records the interaction between water, pigment, paper, and you. Watercolors can be at once incredibly loose and highly technical, intensely planned or wildly improvisational, and they help foster and deepen a relationship with physical reality and the unexpected.  Participants will be introduced to fundamental techniques, provided with the tools to play with the medium, and to have a focused experience with the behavior of that miracle element—water.

No experience necessary! This is not a results-oriented workshop and participants are welcome to make anything they would like and are encouraged to see where the medium takes them. The emphasis will be on providing space and time to nurture a partnership with these simple, fun materials in a communal setting. Rob will be available to answer questions and discuss any aspect of the process.

All basic tools and materials are included, participants can expect to leave with their paintings. This workshop will take place at Sooki Studio's new location, 2971 Allesandro Street, Los Angeles, 90039.

His work has been exhibited internationally, and he has designed backgrounds and characters for animated shows such as The Midnight Gospel and Beavis and Butthead, and his illustrations have appeared in publications such as the New York Times, The New Yorker, and Juxtapoz Magazine.

Sliding Scale Pricing

Sliding scale pricing is a tool for social equity. We use sliding scale pricing to make ceramics education accessible and affordable.

There are three tiers for pricing, when signing up for a workshop, please pay on the scale what feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible.

The high end of the scale is the true cost. If you are someone who can afford to pay this, please do, as this offsets the price for others, allowing us to create more affordable offerings.

There are a set amount of spaces available per tier to ensure that the scale is balanced and workshop costs are covered. If a tier is sold out it means that all those spots have been spoken for. An interest free payment plan is available for all workshops, breaking the workshop cost down to smaller payments over a longer period of time.

We do our best to ensure workshops are accessible and affordable. We are continuously improving our pricing system, please reach out if you have any questions or ideas you'd like to share.

Cancellation Policy

Workshops are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the workshop you may transfer your spot to another person, please confirm with the studio when doing so.

Accessibility

The workshop space is ADA accessible. A bathroom is available for workshop participants that has a set of 3 stairs leading to it that is not currently ADA accessible. For any specific needs or additional questions on accessibility, please reach out
